KATHMANDU, March 25: The report of the State Restructuring Commission (SRC) has been tabled at the Constituent Assembly (CA) on Sunday for deliberations.

CA Chairman Subas Nembang announced at the meeting that lawmakers have four days, starting Monday, to deliberate on the report. After holding deliberations at the 601-seat House, the report will be forwarded to the CA´s Constitutional Committee that is tasked with preparing an integrated draft of the new constitution.

Earlier, the members of the commission, divided over the number of federal states, had submitted two reports. The majority members proposed a 14-province model while minority members recommended six-province map. The commission´s recommendations are nonbinding and would merely serve as suggestions for the CA members to deliberate on.

The majority members included representatives from the UCPN (Maoist) whereas minority members included those with affiliations to the Nepali Congress.
