Gauri Yadav, 27, of Arnama Prapi-9, Lalpur, who was gang-raped on October 1, 2010, is now recovering at the Siraha District Hospital.[break]
“I have been beaten as the culprits have not been brought to book,” said Gauri from her hospital bed. “No other woman in the country may have suffered like me, but I have not been helped by the police,” she rued.
She had gone to one Narendra Mahato to complain about the culprits who were threatening to repeat the offense again. “But he beat me saying why I went to him instead of settling the issue at the village itself,” she claimed.
Her husband Rajbir complained that their daughter has stopped going to school as the offenders tease her with lewd remarks about her mother.
“They have torched a stack of hay and destroyed lentil crops on four kattha of land to put pressure on us to withdraw the case,” Rajbir said.
Police had refused to lodge the complaint for a month and the District Police Office is still putting pressure on them to settle the issue themselves. The four accused were arrested after Gauri lodged a complaint at the District Police Office but were released on date after medical reports failed to establish the offense.
“My whole family feels insecure after they were released,” she rued.
