Punhill luring tourists

BABIYACHAUR (Myagdi), Nov. 16: Punhill at Ghar VDC-1 in the district is gradually developing into a prime destination for tourists trekking around the Annapurna trail.



Situated at an altitude of 3,210 metres from the sea level on a hilltop, Punhill is growing into a famous hill station. [break]



It is known for sight-seeing. One can have a panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges as well as sunrise from Punhill. Tourists can see more than 15 snow-capped mountains including the Machhapuchchhre, Nilgiri, Dhawalagiri, Gurja and Manapathi mountains from here.



Surrounded by lush green forest, Punhill is an ideal destination for trekkers and tourists who want to spend a quiet holiday in the lap of the Himalayas.



Punhill lies close to Pokhara on the famous Annapurna trekking circuit. Besides its identity as a sight-seeing location, it is also a place rich in biodiversity and local culture. It is said that 98 different species of rhododendron grow in Punhill forests. There is also immense possibility of watching wildlife and birds here.



Annually, 20 thousand to 30,000 tourists visit Punhill which is one hour´s trek uphill from Ghorepani, a village with predominantly Magar and Thakali communities.
