However, private vehicles of emergency use, like those of hospitals and media outlets, will get fuel as per the prescribed quota through selected institutional fuel stations.Private vehicles owned by even educational institutions won't be provided any fuel for the next three days, according to MoHA.
MoHA took the decision after holding consultation with Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MoPIT) and Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC). "The decision had to be taken due to depleting fuel stock with," Laxmi Prasad Dhakal, spokesperson of MoHA, told Republica. "The decision will be effective till Saturday."
Dhakal also hinted that fuel supply would be reduced further if supplies do not improve immediately.
The government has already enforced 'odd-even' system for vehicles after India stopped fuel supply, citing security reasons. It has been supplying petrol only through institutional pumps to control anomalies in distribution.
Citing security reasons, India has barred supply of essential goods including petroleum products.
According to NOC, IOC has not distributed fuel to hundreds of tankers that have reached its depot for refueling. Even loaded tankers have been barred from entering into Nepali territory.
Meanwhile, three tankers carrying petroleum products and a bullet of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) entered Nepal on Wednesday via Sunauli border point, according to Bhairahawa Customs Office.
