Products made from natural fibers attract visitors

KATHMANDU, March 24: The ongoing 23rd National Industrial Exhibition at Bhrikutimandap has been able to attract large number of visitors with products made from natural fibers such as Dhaka, allo and silk being the main attraction.



Different handicraft items like dresses made of Dhaka, allo and silk, bamboo products, hay and straw products, leather shoes, metal, wood and clay products, edibles, organic tea, coffee, honey and incense, woolen products, furniture among others are exhibited at the fair.[break]



Krishna Kumar Khadka, owner of Sirjana Dhaka Kapada Udhyog said the visitors have shown interest in saree and bags made of Dhaka. The stall has been selling Dhaka saree at Rs 5,000, shawl at price ranging from Rs 600 to 1,500, Kutha Salwar at Rs 1,800 and tops at Rs 700.



Like Dhaka, allo products have been able to attract customers at the fair. Slippers and bags made from allo displayed by Shree Himalaya Allo and Suti Kapada Udhyog has been the major attraction for the customers. The stall is selling allo slippers at Rs 480, bags at Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,400 and overcoat at Rs 10,000.







Another attraction at the fair is products made from straw, corn and hay. Straw and hay products such as mat, basket, pen stand, tea coaster displayed by Padmawati Hastakala Udhyog of Pokhara has recorded huge sales.



The stall has been selling hay mats at Rs 300, mats made of corn at Rs 500, baskets at Rs 600 to 800, pen stand at Rs 150 to 200 and tea coaster at Rs 50.

The five-day long fair organized by Cottage and Small Industries Development Committee (CSIDC) with an aim to promote the products from micro enterprises has 210 stalls displaying products from 71 districts.



According to Binod Dev Pant, deputy director of CSIDC they have been receiving good response from visitors and have sold goods worth more than Rs 20 million in three days.



Already 300,000 people have visited the expo. “We had expected to attract 500,000 visitors and to record transaction worth Rs 40 million,” said Pant.
