KATHMANDU, Nov 11: Nepal´s apex business body, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), has flayed a circular issued by UCPN (Maoist) and its trade union, urging all industrial workers to compulsorily attend the Singha Durbar picketing program. The FNCCI has termed the decision as a direct intervention into their business operations. [break]

The Maoist has also issued letters to industrialists and sought their cooperation to their agitation, putting the latter into a state of confusion.

“The letter is in the form of request. But we are not sure how to respond to it," said an entrepreneur based in Patan Industrial Estate.

Organizing a press meet on Wednesday, FNCCI urged all the political parties to keep industrial sector and its workers out of the politics. It also requested the parties to end the present deadlock and promote politics of consensus for timely constitution and steering the peace process to a positive end. They also called upon parties to provide relief to people facing high inflation and industries hit hard by labor problems.

"Unfortunately, the political parties have thrown the spirit of Jana Andolan II down the drain by engaging in power struggle. This is devaluation of people´s mandate,” said Kush Kumar Joshi, president of FNCCI.

Joshi further stated that present stalemate has sent a negative signal to the investors in the country and throughout the world that Nepal is not a safe place for investment and doing business.

To do away with the situation, Joshi said the FNCCI, as an apex body of the private sector, had been trying to establish parleys between the ruling parties and the UCPN (Maoist).

"During separate talks, both the sides say they are eager to end present stalemate. But, sadly, they are refusing to talk with each other," said Joshi. "Nonetheless, we are trying to create an environment wherein they could meet and hold talks, paving way for the outlet of present confusion and anarchism."
