Prime tops Group C

KATHMANDU, June 15; Prime College defeated Trinity 64-31 to top Group C of the White House Cup U-19 National Men´s and Women´s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday.



Prime took the first three quarters and settled for a draw in the fourth quarter in the match played at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium. [break]



Prime took a massive lead scoring 21-12, 17-2, 13-4 in the first three quarters, while the last quarter ended at 13-13. Ayush Singh netted 16 points for Prime. Prime will next face CCRC, the runner-up of Group G, in the pre-quarterfinals.



In the other league matches, Sunsari edged past Kavre with 19 points from Hemanta Rai. Sunsari took the first quarter 14-11 but Kavre fought back to win the second quarter 9-6 and level the match at 20-20. Sunsari then scored 15-10 in the third and 17-11 in the fourth quarter to register win.



In the last match of men´s category, Kaski thrashed Myagdi 70-42 in a high-scoring match. Krishna Pun scored 23 points for the winning team. Kaski took all four quarters 18-11, 12-11, 23-10, 17-10 en route to victory.



Defending champion VS Niketan will meet National Campus in the pre-quarterfinals. Title contender Triton will face Times while Morgan will take on Golden Gate.



Likewise, Kaski will meet Kavre while Sunsari will play Myagdi for a place in the last eight of the tournament. Host White House will take on G-4 group from Samakhusi, while NIMS vie for a quarterfinal spot with Trinity.



In the women´s category, White House, NASA, Morgan and Nobel Academy confirmed their quarterfinal berths as group winners while NIMS, CCRC, Prime and Saipal advanced into the last eight as runners-up.



NASA routed Saipal Academy 47-22 in the group stage match with 22 points from Rohini Limbu. Despite the loss, Saipal qualified for the knockout round. NASA took all four quarters 13-7 13-6, 11-7, 10-2. In another match, Yerina KC´s eight points as White House defeated Prime 33-22 to enter the quarterfinals. White House won three quarters 12-3, 7-6, 7-4 and lost 7-9 in one.
