Lauding the contribution of Nepali diaspora in country's economic development, President Yadav also said the country is in need of more investment and support from NRNs in the reconstruction process. "You (NRNs) have an important role for the reconstruction of the country devastated by the recent earthquake," President Yadav said, addressing the inaugural session of the two-day 'NRN Global Conference 2015' organized jointly by the government, Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI)."Nepalis living abroad are sending back remittances to the country which contributes around 30 percent to GDP," President Yadav said. "Along with helping the country by bringing capital, resources and skills, NRNs should now be our partner for economic development."
He also said that the conference would relay the message all over the world that Nepal is a safe destination for tourists.
Speaking at the program, Shesh Ghale, President of NRNA, said NRNs were committed to bring more investment into the country. "There is a perception among people that NRNs gather every year on the eve of Dashain festival to hold program at a five-star hotels and return to their respective countries without doing anything. We have to change this perception," said Ghale. "We have been blamed of not making much investment here. We, however, are making big investments in philanthropic causes as well as businesses," he added.
Citing a survey report entitled 'New Investment in Nepal' carried out by Society of Economic Journalists-Nepal (SEJON) recently, he said that NRNs were making direct investment of Rs 29.86 billion in nine districts.
"We are spending as well as making investments. One can keep record of our commitments that we make. We will fulfill our commitments in the days to come," he added.
FNCCI President Pashupati Murarka also urged NRNA to help the country through economic diplomacy. "NRNs are the true envoys of the country abroad. They can help to boost Nepal's tourism industry and economy by promoting their motherland in the countries that they are working in," said Murarka.
Similarly, speaking at a plenary session entitled 'Rebuilding investment climate - Post Earthquake', Radhesh Pant, CEO of Nepal Investment Board, argued that Nepal's investment climate was improving as the government's attitude toward investors was changing gradually. "We treat investors as partners. Thus NRNs should bring investment in various sectors that hold huge potentials," he added.
