“The president and the prime minister discussed way ahead in the context of parliament´s failure in electing the new prime minister,” said a statement issued by Bishnu Rijal, press advisor to the prime minister, “They discussed ways to restore trustworthy situation and forge consensus among the political parties.”
According to Rijal, Prime Minister Nepal emphasized on the need for forging national consensus saying he stepped down for the same. He said there was no point in forming majority government as he quit the post even as he commanded clear majority in parliament at the time of resignation.
It was the first meeting after the prime minister stepped down on June 30.
