Sikandar Yadav´s wife Sobha Devi Yadav, who is pregnant for seven months, murdered her mother-in-law Sonawa Devi with a dagger in the wee hours of Saturday, according to the District Police Office (DPO) of Rautahat. [break]
The police said Sova Devi, 20, was furious with Sonawa Devi, 48, as the latter had beaten her just a day before.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Govinda Ram Pariyar said Sobha Devi, who was sleeping in the same room as Sonawa Devi, attacked her mother-in-law.
She then approached Pradip Bikram Sah, former vice chairman of Pipara Pokhariya VDC, and told him that two unidentified men stormed into their room and killed Sonawa Devi.
However, not convinced with her account of incident, the police took Sobha Devi under their control for investigation.
When interrogated, Sobha Devi claimed that Ram Sevak Yadav, a local teacher, and his son Arbinda Yadav were involved in the murder.
SP Pariyar said Sobha Devi, when interrogated further, admitted that she herself killed Sonawa Devi as she was furious with the latter´s behavior toward her.
Sobha Devi was married to Sikandar as his second wife just last year. Sova and Sonawa Devi were not in good terms ever since.
On Friday, Sobha had attempted to kill her five-year-old step son by poisoning him. When her misdeed came to light, she was beaten by her family members, including Sonawa Devi.
Sobha decided to materialize her heinous plan on Saturday as her spouse was attending to his ill son in a local hospital.
Ramsevak and his son Arbinda have been released after Sobha pleaded guilty, SP Pariyar added.
