The MoHP is unlucky in the sense that it is not located inside the Singh Durbar premises and therefore does not enjoy continuous power supply. The problem is compounded by the fact that almost all the official work inside the ministry is done through computers.
Due to the power outage, hundreds of service seekers, some of them arriving from far-flung areas, are being deprived of services.
"They return without getting their work done after they learn about power outage in the ministry," Tulshi Bhattarai, Chief of the Doctors Section at the ministry, said. Many people who come to the ministry with the hope of sorting out their problems return home without getting services. Most of the people from far flung districts, who seek service from the ministry, stay at hotels in Kathmandu and return home after they run out of money.
The ministry faces whole day power cut on Mondays. The power goes after 2 pm on Sunday, and after 3pm on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday and Friday, the ministry gets power only after 1 pm, but on Fridays it is closed after 3 pm.
"We keep back up for some computers, but due to prolonged load shedding even they run out of power," Secretary of the MoH Dr Sudha Sharma said. Dr Sharma said that the ministry will be connected with NEA´s direct line within this year.
