The meet is scheduled for August 10-11. During the meeting, the two sides will decide how best to utilize the 30 MW additional power supply from India, which the Indian government agreed to provide to Nepal in July. The NEA will discuss the mechanism to utilize the power as and when Nepal requires it.
During the meeting, the two sides will discuss the tariff rate for power exchange between Nepal and India, determine the price structure for import of additional electricity from India, determine quantity of export and import from various points and discuss maintenance and other technical issues.
In addition, the two-day meet will also focus on increasing power exchange between Nepal and India, dealing with various problems related to sharing of electricity and extending transmission lines between the two countries, sources at the Ministry of Energy said.
The last PEC meeting took place in June 2007 in Kathmandu. India had then agreed to exchange 40 MW more electricity with Nepal. It had also agreed to upgrade the Duhabi-Kataiya transmission line, which will enable Nepal to import an additional 40 MW of electricity annually. Currently, Nepal has been importing 50 MW of electricity through the transmission line.
