A joint meeting of poultry farmers and meat traders of both the districts on Thursday formed a committee to keep a close eye on illegal imports and distribution of poultry products from India. [break]
The government has been controlling the imports of poultry products from India due to frequent outbreaks of bird-flue in poultry farms in areas bordering India.
The committee led by Ram Saran Simkhada also comprises Prakash Shrestha, Prasad Tiwari, Sudarshan Joshi, Dinesh Kattel and Shrikrishna Upreti, among others.
The meeting was held on the initiative of Eastern Chitwan Poultry Entrepreneurs Forum (ECPEF). The monitoring committee would lead our campaign in coordination with local security agencies and other concerned stakeholders to control illegal import of poultry products from the southern neighbor, said Gyan Bahadur Bisural, president of ECPEF.
The committee has warned action against those found illegally importing poultry products from India.
In a latest incident of illegal import of poultry products, Mugling police had recently seized 2,500 chicks illegally imported from India.
Chitwan which is also described a major poultry hub has been producing around 700,000 chicks every week.
