Polls at any cost on Nov 19: Regmi

KATHMANDU, Aug 1: Reiterating his commitment to holding the Constituent Assembly (CA) election on the scheduled date of November 19, Chairman of the Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi has urged the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) to work at the grassroots level to create an election environment.



During a meeting held at his official residence in Baluwatar, Chairman Regmi urged UCPN Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is also the coordinator of HLPC, to focus all their activities on election. “There will be election at any cost on November 19. I urge you to create election environment at the grassroots,” Regmi´s press advisor Bimal Gautam quoted him as telling Dahal. [break]



Regmi also asked the political parties to launch a special campaign to create election environment. “I also urge you to expedite talks and discussions with the disgruntled parties to bring them on board the electoral process,” he said.



Meanwhile, President Dr Ram Baran also held meeting with Maoist Chairman Dahal and CPN-UML Senior leader Madhav Nepal. He urged both the leaders to leave no stone unturned to make November 19 election a success. Both the leaders had apprised the president that HLPC and the government were taking initiatives to hold talks with the agitating parties.
