MAKAWANPUR, March 29: Police seized 345 kg of marijuana at Hadikhola village of Makawanpur on Sunday night.

The marijuana, packed in 12 sacks, was being smuggled to India avoiding the East-West Highway, according to the police.

Acting on a tip-off, police followed the smugglers but the smugglers managed to flee leaving behind the contraband.

"Just a small number of policemen were deployed as the tip-off was not very reliable," SP Suresh Bikram Shah said at a press conference.

Shah added that the police are facing manpower and resource crunch to fight marijuana farming, that is rampant in over 12 remote villages of the district.
