At a press meet organized at the bureau office on Tuesday, Deputy Inspector General Kedar Saud, head of Narcotics Contol Bureau, said, “Khan was in the police´s wanted list since the last 12 to 15 years but was unable to arrest her in absence of sufficient evidence.” [break]
Khan, a resident of Jayaspur VDC-6 in Banke District, had been involved in selling drugs in Nepal and India but in recent times Kathmandu had become her major market, according to the police.
DIG Saud said that the police had raided Khan´s home several times in the past but was not able to press formal charges against her for lack of proper evidence.
“But this time the police approached her as a decoy buyer of drugs and was able to nab her,” he said. According to the bureau, she used to deal only with other dealers but this time agreed to sell Brown Sugar directly to the customer.”
Meanwhile, the police also arrested two people, one Nepali and one Indian citizen, with 150 kg of crude hashish from Baadbhanjyang VDC-5 near Jhayaple Khola of Kathmandu. The arrested have been identified as Mohammad Safik, 30, of Madhubani district of the Indian state of Bihar, and Indrajeet Mukhiya, 42, of Maadar VDC-2 of Siraha District. According to the police, they were also involved in trafficking drugs in India and Nepal.
The bureau on Sunday also arrested Dipendra Mahato, 24, of Gamhariya-8 of Sarlahi District, for bearing 3800 ampoule of prescription pharmaceutical drugs like Diazepam and Buprenorpnine. The police said each ampoule of the controlled drugs is sold for up to Rs 500.
Police arrests 462 people
The police on Tuesday made 462 arrests in the capital as part of its drive to apprehend people they suspect as hooligans.
The drive, according to the police, is aimed at curbing the increasing incidents of theft, looting and other criminal activities in the Kathmandu Valley.
According to the Metropolitan Police Range Office, Hanumandhoka, among them 210 were arrested for smoking in public places. On Monday, the police arrested 711 people from different places in Kathmandu and maintained their identification details in the police records.
