Rabin Shrestha, Bharat Shah, and Hem Tamang were on target for the departmental team that went into break with a goal cushion.Police will meet Rupandehi XI in the semifinal to be played on Tuesday which edged Dharan 4-1 for a place in the last four.
Police was made to wait until the 40th minute for the breakthrough. Rabin Shrestha netted the opening goal for Police through a freekick awarded after Sailesh Shankar handed the ball. Rabin's strike from 25 yards crossed the goalline after goalkeeper Jeesan Charlies fumbled the ball with his hand.
Police came up with offensive style after the break as Bharat Shah doubled the advantage in the 70th minute. Bharat collected a pass from Suman Lama and then shot at the far post smashing the ball into the net. Hem Tamang ensured the victory for Police eight minutes from time capitalizing on a pass of Bharat. He was also declared the man-of-the-match and received Rs 5,000 as reward.
Police coach Ananta Thapa commented that his side performed only 50 percent of its potential and it was difficult for them to adjust in new pitch during the first half. "The semifinal match will be a much improved than this," said Tamang who guided the team to title of Birat Gold Cup that concluded on Saturday in Biratnagar.
Armed Police Force will vie with Manang Marshyangdi Club in the first semifinal on Wednesday.
