The Crime Division was able to arrest Tamang and Lama with the help of tip off from the locals of Guheswari who informed them that the two were trying to sell the skins for Rs 200,000. [break]
According to the Police, both of them have been sent to District Forest Office (DFO), Hattisar for further investigation.
According to IUCN, the population of Red Panda is estimated to be fewer than 10,000 individuals across the world, with about 100 individuals found in Nepal.
They are found only in countries like Nepal, China, Bhutan, Burma and Laos. In Nepal, red pandas are found in Langtang, Makalu, Sagarmatha and Rara National Parks as well as in the Kanchanjungha and Annapurna conservation area.
As per the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation act, 1973, those convicted of poaching endangered red panda face imprisonment of 5 to 15 years or a fine of Rs 50,000 to 100,000 or both
