PM urges Thapa for consensus

KATHMANDU, June 7: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai reached Maligaun on Thursday to hold discussion with former prime minister Surya Bahadur Thapa on tackling the present political crisis.



During the meeting, PM Bhattarai urged Thapa to help create an atmosphere for consensus among political parties to diffuse the existing political and constitutional crisis emerged after the dissolution of Constituent Assembly (CA) on May 27. [break]



PM Bhattarai also defended the government´s announcement of fresh CA elections for November 22, saying it was the only democratic option left in the transitional period.



On the occasion, Thapa, also chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party, is said to have told PM Bhattarai to step down to pave way for national consensus.



A day earlier, Bhattarai had consulted former prime ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba and Madhav Kumar Nepal, seeking their advice in dealing with the newly emerged political situation in the country.
