PM orders relief package for quake victims

KATHMANDU, March 3: A meeting of the Central Natural Disaster Rescue Committee has decided to approve the report of a task force to study the damages of the September-18 earthquake by the government and implement it.



At the meeting held at Home Ministry in Singha Durbar on Saturday, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai directed the concerned bodies to reach the relief to the earthquake affected people. [break}



A secretary at the Finance Ministry who participated in the meeting informed that the Prime Minister also drew the attention of the concerned authorities to devising a solid mechanism to collect details about the earthquake damage.



Moreover, Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai directed the ministries to strictly implement the building construction code of conduct to lessen the tremor damages.



The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar, Minister for Physical Planning and Works Hridayesh Tripathi, State Minister for Home Affairs, Bhimraj Chaudhari Rajbansi, Chief Secretary Madhav Ghimire, ministry secretaries and security chiefs.



It was informed at the meeting that the September-18 earthquake had claimed six lives leaving 30 seriously injured and 30,000 directly affected. The earthquake damaged the properties worth 5 billion.
