PM, Indian army chief discuss peace process

KATHMANDU, April 5: Indian army chief General Vijay Kumar Singh called on Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai at the latter’s office in Singha Durbar on Thursday morning.



The meeting chiefly dwelt on Nepal’s ongoing peace process. According to a press note issued by the PM’s personal aide Bishwadeep Pandey,  PM Bhattarai hailed the Indian army’s democratic tradition that places importance on civilian leadership. [break]



PM Bhattarai also stated the Nepal Army has been playing a constructive role in the integration of Maoist combatants and expressed his confidence that the integration process would be a success.



On the occasion, Singh assured Bhattarai of Indian army’s support and assistance for Nepal’s peace process, the press note said.



Earlier, Singh, who is on a Nepal visit to attend the three-day Regional Seminar on Natural Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance, had called on President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at Shital Niwas.
