PM Bhattarai made the claim in his live telecast speech to the nation to mark his one year in office from Singha Durbar late Tuesday afternoon. [break]
He said his government was formed in a trying situation and described its emergence as an effort to ’manage tussle’ between the progressive and regressive forces.
Bhattarai emphasized that crucial tasks related to the peace process, including the handover of arms containers at the cantonments, were accomplished after he assumed office.
Referring to the breakaway Mohan Baidya group, he reminisced that there had been street protests staged against the peace process by ‘those with shallow thought’.
Likewise, Bhattarai said rejection of the government-forwarded bill by Nepali Congress (NC) for extension of the Constituent Assembly ‘served as the basis for CA dissolution’.
He accused NC and UML of working against consensus politics by exiting from the government, then, and said there were conspiracies going on for a long time to bring about dissolution of the CA.
Similarly, Bhattarai claimed that the country´s economic progress indexes have improved and that the power outage hours have been reduced over the past one year, compared to previous years.
He said his government is preparing to bring in relief programs, but said the government could not function optimally delivering services for want of a full-fledged budget.
The PM also said his government is not involved in any activities with neighbors against the country´s interest and expressed his readiness to step down the moment consensus is forged among political parties.
