KATHMANDU, Dec 4: A meeting of the three major parties – UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress and CPN-UML – held at the secretariat of the Special Committee on supervision, Integration and Rehabilitation of former Maoist combatants has concluded, on Tuesday.
Exiting from the meeting, NC General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula said Maoist and UML leaders showed readiness to accept a consensus PM from his party and that they asked to name the party´s prime ministerial candidate to lead consensus government. [break]
Sitaula added they maintained NC will finalize the name of the party´s PM candidate in its central working committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday. The Maoist party´s Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha said his party will accept a candidate from any party which pins faith in democracy, republic and the institution of constituent assembly.
UML leader KP Oli said they dwelt on ways to forge consensus and expressed his optimism that now there will soon be a turn of events in a positive direction. The meeting, also attended by PM Baburam Bhattarai took place, with only two days now remaining before the extended deadline for consensus government expires.
