KATHMANDU, Sept 7: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has cancelled his plan to attend the 67th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) scheduled to begin from September 18.

According to Spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Arjun Bahadur Thapa, the Nepali delegation to UNGA will now be led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha. [break]

"The prime minister has cancelled his plan as it is not mandatory for the head of the government to attend UNGA," he said. The prime minister was originally scheduled to leave for New York to address UNGA on September 30.

Sources close to the prime minister said the visit was cancelled as there were no new agendas to be discussed in UNGA this time around.
