CHITWAN, Jan 22: Leaders of political parties have termed Jan 22, 2011, the day of formally bringing People´s Liberation Army (PLA) combatants under the command and control of the Special Committee, a historic day.

The formal handover of PLA will boost the present peace process, said senior leader of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba talking to reporters at PLA´s Third Division in Shaktikhor, Chitwan, on Saturday. "This will certainly help conclude army integration process as well."

This is a very positive move, he said, adding that the Unified CPN (Maoist) should be honest now.

Maoist Spokesman said that the PLA handover is an important achievement. This will facilitate constitution drafting and ending political problems, he said. He also said that PLA combatants will be under the command and control of the Special Committee, not the government.

Similarly talking briefly to reporters, Maoist Vice-Chairman Mohan Baidhya Kiran said that a new dynamism has started in the peace process.

Chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Upendra Yadav also hailed the PLA handover.
