The other gold came from Sami Lama, a former Central Region player, won the Jian Shu/Qiang Shu with 15.10 points. In the men´s Nan Kun/Nan Quan, Raju Maharjan of Central claimed gold with 17.20 points, while Bikash Gurung of Western won the Dao Shu/Gun Shu title earning 16.90 points.[break]
Hockey
Far Western Region defended the title of men´s hockey on Friday in Mahendranagar. Far Western Region edged past Central Region 1-0 in the last match of the round robin league between five teams. Ramesh Parki scored the lone goal for the winning side in the 38th minute of the match played on the ground of Rastriya Bal Bidhyalaya in Mahendranagar.
Far Western Region accumulated 10 points from four matches to clinch the gold medal. Central Region has nine points from four matches. Had Central Region played only a draw, it could have lifted the title. Eastern Region claimed bronze medal with five points. Som Magar of Central Region scored four goals during the tournament and he was adjudged player of the tournament.
Men´s Volleyball
Nepal Police Club (NPC) set up a final clash against Armed Police Force (APF) in men´s volleyball event of the Sixth National Games. NPC defeated Western Region in a marathon semi-final match that ended in five sets at the Volleyball Training Center, Mahendranagar.
NPC won the first two sets with 25-18 and 25-21 respectively but Western Region made a comeback winning the third and the fourth set with the scores of 25-23 and 25-23 respectively. In the final set, Western Region gave tough competition to NPC but latter won it 15-11 to secure berth in final.
Likewise, APF made a comeback from a set down to win the semi-final match against PLA Sports Club. APF pulled 15-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-21 victory over PLA.
Chess
FIDE Master Manish Hamal of Central Region became the new Nepal champion after he won gold medal in chess during the Sixth National Games. Hamal was tied on six points with Keshav Shrestha and Prachanda Man Malakar, both from Central, and was declared the winner under Sonneborn-Berger tie-break system. Hamal defeated Rajan Puri of Central in the seventh round before drawing with Keshav Shrestha in the eighth round.
Silver medalist Keshav Shrestha beat Niraj Niraula of Eastern Region in his last round match. Prachanda Man Malakar was held by Dharam Bahadur Lama (Central) after he defeated U-19 champion Rupesh Jaiswal of Central Region.
Table Tennis
The duo of Rajendra Kapali and Ranjit Singh Rayamajhi of Central Region won gold medals in men´s doubles of table tennis. However, Nepal Police is leading the medals chart of table tennis with four gold medals.
Kapali and Rayamajhi defeated Purushottam Bajracharya and Chandan Shahi of Armed Police Force 11-8, 11-9, 15-13 in the final played at the hall of Agriculture Development Office, Mahendranagar. The pair of Ajay Suwal and Deep Saun of Nepal Police as well as another NPC pairing of Amar Lal Malla and Rakesh Maharjan claimed bronze medals of the event. The gold medals of men´s singles and women´s singles will be decided on Saturday.
