BHAKTAPUR, Jan 13: Bode-based Drinking Water Processing and Distribution Center, from where water is supplied to several parts in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur, has turned into a place for dumping garbage.

Waste materials litter around the water source area of Bode Drinking Water Project as locals clean vegetables, bathe, wash clothes and bring cattle in the center.

Old clothes, shoes and slippers; feces of pig and garbage generated in villages are thinly thrown in the area.

The project was constructed with the assistance of Japan seven years ago. Water from the source is collected in dug wells and sent to the center after processing and mixing bacteria-killer medicine. It is said that around 10.5 million liter water is daily distributed from the center to Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur, New Baneshwor, Thapathali and some other areas.

When asked, Kathmandu Valley Drinking Water Ltd, Thimi branch, said that despite its repeated efforts to clean the drinking water center, it has become a picture of neglect due to ´wayward´ locals who do not dispose garbage in a fixed place.
