KATHMANDU, Dec 9: Vice-president Parmananda Jha said on Sunday that the people have to rise and back the president for him to take an extra step to end the current political deadlock.

“There is hardly anything that the president can do at the moment. He has been doing what he can. Now the people have to rise and provide him back force to take further measures to end the impasse,” Jha said. [break]

Speaking at a program in the capital, Jha also said it would be too early for now to assess whether the state head did enough to diffuse the existing crisis. Jha also said the president’s recent move has helped at least bring political leaders together to think a way out of the current mess.

Jha also said the Supreme Court should clearly specify the role of president as patron of the constitution to eliminate confusions emerging from a number of party-specific interpretations. He was of the view that the president should not endorse any ordinance that has a political nature.
