Peacekeeping conference begins

KATHMANDU, Aug 1: Nepal Army in collaboration with the US Pacific Command (USPACOM) Global Peace Operations Initiative launched a three-day conference titled Peacekeeping Training Center Commandants Conference in the capital on Sunday.



The conference has been organized with the aim of sharing knowledge and experience on peace-building initiatives and to prepare concept paper for establishing a regional training center for peacekeeping operations.



The conference has drawn participation from eight other countries -- Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand -- besides Nepal, a press statement issued by the NA´s Directorate of Public Relations said.



Representatives of International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centers secretariat, UN´s Department of Peacekeeping Operations, Integrated Training Service and USPACOM are also participating.



It is organized under the US government´s GPOI program and was inaugurated by Major General Anil Jung Thapa, who is the Director General of Military Training.
