KATHMANDU, Feb 2: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Saturday pledged the party cadres that his party would not give up the Peoples’ agenda and the sacrifice of the thousands of people.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of 7th general convention of the party at Huparachaur, Hetauda, Dahal, however, said that the rationality of being a Maoist would end from the same day when it gives up the peoples’ agenda.[break]
Saying that communist revolutions cannot be waged in similar ways everywhere, Dahal, however, argued that his party has been acting and taking decisions as per the need of the situations.
He further added that the ongoing convention would be proved a milestone for the party and pave the way for concluding the unfinished tasks of the peoples´ revolution.
On the occasion, Dahal also stressed on the need of holding the new elections at the earliest. He, however, blamed the main opposition parties for obstructing the election process.
Asking the opposition parties to recommend the name of independent person for post of new prime minister, Dahal also urged them to make the conducive environment for new elections, giving up their ongoing protests against the government.
Addressing the function, Dahal also warned of severe consequences of the opposition parties if they missed the opportunity.
Earlier, in the day, UCPN (Maoist) chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the seventh general convention of the party amid a grand ceremony by lighting the traditional lamp.
Various political party leaders, representatives of communist parties from abroad and leaders of civil society delivered their speech wishing the success of the convention.
Nepali Congress Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel, CPN-UML Vice-chairman Bam Dev Gautam, Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana, Rastriya Janashakti Party Chairman Surya Bahadur Thapa and other leaders were also present.
Earlier, the party had organized rallies from various parts of the city before converging into inauguration ceremony.
According to the Maoist party, around 3,000 to 3,500 representatives, including volunteers are participating in the general convention.
It is the first time in 21 years that the ruling Maoists is holding their general convention, and the first time since they joined the peace process.
The general convention is expected elect a new leadership of the party and set out its new political line.
