This was the first time Shah had opened his eyes after collapsing at the apartment of Bangkok-based Nepali businessman Sunil Khadka late February 19, according to a reliable source.[break]
"It (the opening of eye) was for a brief moment, but we consider it as a positive development," the source said. "However, he is still on ventilator support and his medical condition is critical but stable."
Earlier on Wednesday, doctors of Samitivej Hospital, where Shah is admitted, had reported spontaneous movement in Shah´s limbs -- the first since he started receiving treatment. The movements, albeit spontaneous, continued on Thursday as well.
Shah had started moving his limbs after his body temperature was raised to a normal of 37 degrees centigrade.
"Currently, his body temperature is maintained at 37.4 degrees centigrade," the source said. Doctors had gradually raised his body temperature to normal so as to prevent multiple organ failure.
"However, doctors are yet to conduct an MRI to see if his organs have sustained injuries," the source said, adding, "We´re told it will be conducted next week."
Lately, doctors are also reducing the dosage of various medicines on Shah, the source informed.
As news about Shah´s medical condition started making rounds in Nepali community in Thailand, hundreds of his well wishers have started thronging the hospital. "This crowd mainly comprises people of Nepali origin and Nepalis living or working in Thailand," the source said. "Nowadays, they also visit the hospital to take a glimpse of (former) king and queen."
Former King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah and former Queen Komal Rajya Laxmi Shah - parents of Paras - arrived in Bangkok on Wednesday. Soon after landing at Suvarnabhumi airport they went straight to the hospital, took a look at their son and then held consultation with doctors.
On Thursday, the former royals arrived at the hospital at around 11 in the morning and stayed there till 1:30 in the afternoon, the source said. "They again came to hospital at six in the evening," he said.
