The committee has recommended minimum 10,008 rupees as monthly salary for journalists working with national-level media houses. [break]
The committee had recommended 7,200 rupees as monthly salary three years ago. For employees other than journalists working at national media houses, the committee has determined 7,367 rupees as minimum salary.
Likewise, the committee has recommended 7,228 rupees as minimum salary for the journalists working in other media houses, and 6,405 rupees for employees other than journalists.
In the case of stringers, the committee has recommended 125 rupees per news story for those working for national radios, 150 rupees per news story for newspapers and 400 rupees for televisions. Similarly, the committee has determined 100 rupees per news story to stringers working for other radios and newspapers and 400 rupees to those working for television.
The committee has said that it was necessary to review the salary of working journalists stating that there has been huge increment in the salaries of civil servants and workers in various other sectors in the recent years.
The committee has stressed on the need of setting up a fully authorized body to monitor status of implementation of the recommendations regarding salary and facilities provided to journalists.
