PAC forms sub-committee to study BFIs

KATHMANDU, Sept 13: The Public Accounts Committee of legislative-parliament on Tuesday formed a sub-committee to study operations and condition of banks and financial institutions (BFIs).



The three-member committe headed by lawmaker Keshav Nepal has Rajendra Khetan and Kamala Pant as members. [break]



Nepal said the objective of the sub-committee was to identify problems facing the BFIs and come up with suggestive measures.



“We have asked the central bank and Ministry of Finance to update us about the present situation of BFIs within three days,” he said, adding that the sub-committee will come up with short-term, mid-term and long-term recommendations for the stakeholders after holding discussions with officials of Nepal Rastra Bank, Ministry of Finance and representatives of BFI associations.



He further said that the major objective of the sub-committee was to restore the low confidence of depositors towards BFIs and to ensure good governance in financial institutions.
