Over 30,000 voters deprived of ID card

SALYAN, April 8: More than 30,000 citizens in Salyan have been deprived of the new voter identity card with a photograph as they lack the mandatory citizenship certificate.



A total of 30,012 residents in the 47 VDCs of the district have been found to not possess their citizenship certificate, and thereby failed to acquire the voter ID card, according to the District Election Office, Salyan. [break]



The fact was revealed during the voter registration program carried out by the Office last year.



Likewise, 358 members of the Badi community in 16 VDCs of Salyan have also deprived of the voter ID card, as they do not have a citizenship certificate.



Only 42 of the 400 Badis above 16 years of age are found to have acquired their citizenship certificate, according to a study carried out by local Non-government organizations.



Meanwhile, the District Election Office, Salyan is to carry out the voter registration for those who were left out in the first phase from coming April 14.
