Organizing a press conference in the capital on Saturday, the sister organizations of the opposition parties announced a week-long protest programs aimed at unseating the current government. [break]
"If our demand is not met even during the second phase of protests, we will launch stern agitations against the government," said Ranjit Karna, President of Nepal Student Union, student wing of the NC.
As part of the protest programs, the youth wings have decided to disrupt the government´s plans to celebrate the Youth Day, which falls on Sunday. They have also decided to shutdown educational institutions with foreign names and affiliated to foreign organizations.
The agitators plan to organize protest rallies across the country on August 13 and encircle the office of Youth Self-employment Fund in the capital and the District Administration Offices in all 75 districts on August 14.
Similarly, they will hold mock elections over the legitimacy of the present government on August 16 and announce the result on August 17. The youth and student organizations will hand over the result to President Ram Baran Yadav on August 19 and will encircle the prime minister´s residence the same day.
Addressing the press conference, Chairman of All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) Madhav Dhungel said they were left with no alternative but to take to the streets in order to save the country from further crisis.
Accusing Bhattarai of hatching conspiracy to cling to the power in the name of forging consensus among political parties, Dhungel claimed that they would oust the prime minister from the streets.
