KATHMANDU, April 16: Standing committee member KP Sharma Oli of ruling CPN-UML has accused Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal of acting arbitrarily and said the party may take action against Khanal if he keeps violating party decisions.

He claimed that the party organization may relieve Khanal of both positions -- as party chairman and as prime minister -- if he further violated the party decisions.[break]

Oli said Khanal was held the position of party general secretary for around seven years until 1989 when the party organization removed him from the position as he didn´t work as per the party policy and decisions.

“Therefore, he is well aware what action the party may take against him and I hope he will not repeat the mistakes,” Oli told media persons at an interaction organized by Reporters´ Club in Kathmandu on Saturday.

In his strongly worded remarks he said Khanal is acting arbitrarily and irrationally in an attempt to cling to the post of prime minister. He clearly ruled out any possibility of allowing the largest coalition partner UCPN (Maoist) to head the home ministry. “This is our party´s official decision. No one can violate it. There is no room for any ifs and buts,” he said.

Coming down heavily on the prime minister for nominating new ministers from the party allegedly without consulting himself and another senior UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, he urged the prime minister to work as per the party decisions or be prepared to face consequences.

The Nepali-Oli group, which is Khanal´s rival faction in the party, was annoyed by the prime minister´s selection of five cabinet ministers and seven ministers of state in the recent cabinet expansion.
