Following a complaint by an anonymous person, CIAA had instructed the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) to put all NTY- related programs on hold until the commission completes its investigation.
Speaking at an interaction program organized by Journalist Association for Tourism (JAT) in the capital Wednesday, tourism officials said there is no point in remaining in their position when they don´t have a right to carry out any activity related to NTY. They also expressed confusion over the intention of CIAA letter as to wether it meant to halt international promotional programs or all the programs related to tourism year.
NTY Coordinator Yogendra Shakya said, "We are entrepreneurs apart from being in the committee. If nothing can be done, there is no point wasting time by remaining in the committee." The major agenda of the committee was to add new aircraft to Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) and carry out international promotional programs.
Ranjeet Acharya who heads the publicity department for NTY said the publicity deal with BBC is very competitive at Rs 25 million.
Committee members further said they have not received the CIAA instructions. "We have not received the letter and we are in confusion as to what can be done and what not," Shakya said.
They also requested the government to advise the way forward and address the chaos surrounding NTY toward the fag end of the tourism year.
