"I have decided to quit on moral grounds and make way for smooth functioning of the council under a new governing body," Maharjan said amidst the function. He expressed bitterness toward corruptions and irregularities in the NSC. "Though I have spent about three decades in the field of sports, I was unable to work to my full potential as the NSC board was full of people who had no idea about sports."

He blamed others in the council´s board of openly engaging in personal benefits and corruption.
