During an interaction program with national team skipper Paras Khadka and other members of the squad, NSC Member Secretary Keshav Kumar Bista said that the NSC could take any step for improving the management of the game. "We are planning to run sports in systematic way and work to solve the problems of sports associations. Cricket is our top priority and we could take serious steps for good governance of the game," Bista said.Bista also added that the NSC was planning to bring such person to leadership who would be accepted nationally as well as internationally. "We shall respect the feelings of players and sports lovers while we take the new step," said Bista, but refrained from clearly mentioning when he was going to make such move.
"We shall come up with solution very soon," he said.
Meanwhile, CAN has announced to hold its election on November 8.
Trying to assure the limited players present at the interaction, Bista said, "You are the pride of the nation and Nepal has witnessed success in cricket because of players like you. But cricket has been badly hit in the country due to poor management. Thus we are trying to fix the problems of cricket and ensure the future of cricketers."
Speaking at the program, Minister for Youth and Sports Purushottam Paudel pointed out that there were problems at CAN since long and his attempts to sort out those problems were futile. "We had reshuffled CAN with the view to move forward with new vision. But the stay order issued by Patan Appellate Court foiled the move," he recalled. "Then NSC Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama came to the defense of CAN and there were differences in opinion of the NSC and the Ministry."
Stating that the ministry could only furnish suggestions for solving problems, Paudel said that it was the NSC which needs to take concrete decision. "CAN or cricket board does not matter if there is right leadership. But a wrong leadership would make any type of governing body meaningless. NSC holds the right to manage, govern and punish sports associations," he said.
He also blamed that media and court misinterpreted the steps taken to solve the problem of CAN. "More than half of the elected office bearers are not in CAN and it is run mostly by nominated members. But the government's decision to sort out the problem of CAN by forming a board was misinterpreted. There was a big partnership of media and court to destroy cricket in the country."
Speaking at the program, national cricket team skipper Paras said that structure of the cricket in country was deteriorating day by day. "The problems of cricket are getting bigger every other day. The only positive aspect is the current national team's performance. There has not been any development works at club, district and regional level. One cannot say that cricket is developing because of limited success it achieves in international level. There is no one to take responsibility," Paras said.
Recalling that he had attended several such meetings in the past, Paras said, "We have attended many such meetings in the past and discussed about the problems of cricket. But things are now where it was in the past. The overall development of the game is the need of the current time."
Vice-captain Gyanendra Malla recalled that cricketers' voice to improve the management was taken as going against CAN.
