According to NSC Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama, NSC took the initiative after Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai gave directives to Youth and Sports Minister Kamala Roka and Lama to work on it three weeks ago.[break]
“The prime minister had asked us to do our homework for the amendment of current act and regulations,” said Lama.
“He had asked us how the act and regulations could incorporate and establish rights of players as well as the autonomy of NSC and other sports authorities,” he added.
Lama said NSC will prepare the draft from its side very soon and hold an interaction with stakeholders before submitting the final draft to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
“As we submit the draft, the ministry will start the procedure to table the bill in parliament and finalize the regulations,” said Lama.
“Uncertainty looms at the NSC board everytime a new government is formed and the initiative for amendment is to avoid these problems,” said Lama.
According to Lama, NSC has been discussing three modalities for the formation of NSC board. “The first model is for nominating 49 percent of board members from the sports ministry and 51 percent through voting.
Meanwhile, modalities of either electing all board members or electing member secretary and approving nominations made by him have also been discussed,” said Lama.
Lama said that the discussion mainly focused on providing voting rights to players, coaches, referees and representatives of sports associations to elect NSC board.
