KATHMANDU, April 2: National Sports Council (NSC) has sent a letter to Public Accounts Commission (PAC) on Monday requesting the latter to extend time to submit the settlement of arrears of Sixth National Games.

PAC had earlier directed the NSC and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) to settle arrears of the Sixth National Games and submit an analytical progress report on the event by April 2.[break]

Local committees of the 11 political parties other than the UCPN (Maoist) had filed complaints against NSC and MoYS for alleged irregularities during the games. PAC ordered an inquiry into the Games after reports that the infrastructure built for the games were of poor quality and had started crumbling.

NSC Treasurer Indra Bahadur Thing said the financial report was yet to arrive from district and regional sports offices and NSC was not in aposition to provide report within the deadline given by PAC. “We will be able to submit the report by this month.”

Speaking at the NSC premises, NSC Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama also echoed similar sentiment. "We have been working on the PAC directives day and night but it won´t be completed within the given time frame."

The financial transaction is being checked at the NSC hostel by five different groups. "We have provided five rooms to five development regions to finalize the account and transaction," Lama said.

Member of NSC Resham Lama was appointed the coordinator of Eastern, Kiran Giri of Central, Ram Krishna Baniya of Western, Dilip Bikram Shahi of Mid Western and Pahal Singh Gharti of Far Western region as coordinators for the works.

According to members involved in checking the transactions the task can only be completed in a month.
