KATHMANDU, Jan 31: A taekwondo player misbehaved with Salim Miya Ansari, acting member secretary of National Sports Council (NSC), and attempted to manhandle him on Sunday.

The player, Keshar Bahadur Lama of Nijgadh, Bara, was trying to obtain a recommendation letter from the NSC in order to compete in the US Open Taekwondo Championship. [break]

As per the rules, a player has to submit a letter from the concerned association before he can get a recommendation letter from the NSC. But Lama lost his temper when Ansari asked him to furnish a letter from the association he is affiliated with. “The player threw the files at Ansari´s face and used foul words when he [Ansari] asked to bring a letter from the concerned association,” an eyewitness told myrepublica.com.

After the incident, NSC Vice-president Pitambar Timilsina and NSC Member Min Krishna Maharjan counseled the player and sent him off. Although the NSC informed the police about the incident immediately, they arrived much later.

Sports authorities have expressed concerns over players´ indiscipline. Ansari said that the NSC will take strict measures in the future to maintain discipline. “Sports cannot move forward in this manner. Any player who resorts to undisciplined behavior will face punishment,” he said.
