NPC weightlifters dominate

Weightlifting



NPC weightlifters continued their dominance in the Sixth National Games as they added four more gold medals to the two they won on Monday. Likki Thapa won the men´s 69 kg gold as he lifted 88 kg in snatch and 100 kg in clean and jerk. Rakta Man Mali (Central) and Bikash Thapa Magar of Western claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.[break]



Another Nepal Police Club lifter Anil Malla won the gold in men´s 77kg weight category. Malla lifted 107 kg in snatch and 132 kg in clean and jerk to clean gold. Keshav Shrestha of Mid Western and Ranjit Khadka of Central took silver and bronze.



NPC also won both golds up for grabs in women´s weightlifting on Tuesday. Uttam Khatri of NPC won gold in women´s 58 kg category while her club-mate Raj Laxmi Thapa (women´s 63 kg) also secured gold for the departmental team.



Khatri lifted a total of 123 kg, including 56 kg in snatch and 67 kg in clean and jerk, to win gold. Shanti Chaudhary of Eastern Region lifted 114 kg (52 kg in snatch and 62 kg in clean and jerk) to win silver. Raj Kumari Chaudhary of NPC lifted 101 kg (46 kg in snatch and 55 kg in clean and jerk) to secure three silver.



Meanwhile, NPC´s Thapa lifted 125 kg (55 snatch and 70 kg clean and jerk) to clinch gold. Raj Kumari Chaudhary of Mid Western Region won silver lifting 95 kg while Sonam Chaudhary of Far Western Region settled for bronze lifting 90 kg.



Taekwondo



Grishma Nepali of Central Region won gold in women´s singles of taekwondo´s poomse event. Amrita Thapa of Western Region finished second to claim silver while Sarita Rai of Eastern Region and Deepika Pandey of Mid Western Region both secured bronze.



In the men´s singles poomse held at Mahendranagar´s covered hall, Jagadish Pal of NPC clinched gold. Amrit Byanjakar of PLA settled for silver in the event. Mohan Bhandari of Western Region and Tek bahadur Magar of Eastern Region jointly finished third.



Nischal Shrestha secured another gold for NPC in men´s U78 kg category. Shrestha defeated Aashish Maharjan of APF in the final. Yogendra Rasaili of Eastern Region and Raj Kumar Lama of Central Region finished third.



Archery



Western Region clinched two gold medals in the men´s archery on Tuesday in Mahendranagar. Western won the gold of men´s individual bamboo round after Raju KC scored 621 points out of 720, while Ramesh Tulachan accumulated 620 points and Amrit Gurung earned 610 points. The trio then combined to struck gold in the team event of bamboo round with 1851 points. Western also won silver and bronze in the team events.



In recurve events, Central Region won two gold medals. Jeet Bahadur Moktan clinched the gold medal in men´s recurve while Ganga Bahadur Kunwar (Western) and Prem Prasad Pun (Central) claimed silver and bronze medals respectively. Krishna Maya Syangtan won gold in women´s recurve while Renu Tamang (Western) and Anita Gurung (Central) claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.



ITF Taekwondo



Central Region won three gold medals and a silver medal in ITF taekwondo held in Tikapur on Tuesday. Western Region claimed two gold, three silver medals and a bronze medal. Likewise, Mid Western Region won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals. Eastern Region claimed a gold medal, two silver and two bronze medals. Meanwhile, APF and PLA Sports club clinched a gold medal each.


Women´s football



APF was off to a flying start in women´s football as it thrashed Mid Western Region 12-0 in the opening match held in Mahendranagar on Tuesday. Anu Lama scored five goals while Deepa Adhikari contributed three in APF´s victory. Laxmi Poudel grabbed two goals and Jamuna Gurung and Pramila Rai added one goal each to rout Mid Western Region.



In other matches, NPC, PLA and Central Region won their respective matches.



A brace from Niru Thapa helped NPC secure a 4-1 win over Eastern Region. Samrachana Pradhan and Manda Mukhiya added a goal each for NPC. Deepa Neupane grabbed a consolation goal for Eastern Region.



Likewise, PLA defeated Far Western Region 2-1 while Central Region hammered Western Region 4-0.



Men´s Kabaddi



The semifinals draw of men´s kabaddi has been finalized on Tuesday. Central Region will face NPC in the first semifinal while Far Western Region will lock horns with Western Region in the second semifinal.



On Tuesday, Central Region defeated Eastern Region 37-20, Western Region thrashed Mid Western Region 45-7, Far Western Region saw off Eastern Region 49-34 and NPC beat Mid Western Region 36-17 to secure the semifinal berths.



Men´s Volleyball



APF and Western Region won their respective matches in men´s volleyball on Tuesday at the Volleyball Training Center, Mahendranagar. APF defeated Eastern Region 25-18, 25-15, 25-22, while Wesgtern Region saw off Mid-west 25-16, 25-23, 25-12. Also, NPC outclassed University 25-18, 25-9, 26-18 and PLA Sports Club beat Central Region 25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 25-15.



Hockey



Both matches of men´s hockey ended on draw on Tuesday in Mahendranagar. Far Western and Eastern Region played a goalless draw. The match between Mid Western and Western Region ended at 1-1 draw. Mohmmad Jalil Halwai scored a goal for Mid Western while Akash Gurung leveled the score for Western Region.

In men´s hockey, five participating teams are competing in round robin league.



Golf



Central Region took lead after the completion of the second day in golf being played on Himalayan Golf Course Pokhara. Central has a scored of 496 while Western Region has 507 score. In individual section, Bikash Bogati took lead with a total score of 159 while Ramesh Gurung played 163 strokes in total to remain on the second position of the leader board.



Table Tennis



Nepal Police defeated Far Western Region while Western Region thrashed Mid Western Region in men´s team event of TT. Likewise, APF edged past Central and Eastern Region on identical 3-0 victory. In women´s team event, Central defeated Mid Western 3-0 while APF pulled 3-1 victory over Eastern Region. Nepal Police thrashed Far Western 3-0.



Table Tennis events started in the hall of Agriculture Development Office in Mahendranagar from Tuesday.



Chess



Prem Krishna Maharjan of Central Region and Bijay Gurung of Western Region took lead in the chess after the completion of two rounds on Tuesday. Maharjan defeated women´s champion Tara Ghale in the first round and Jagat Bahadur Thapa of Mid Western Region in the second round. Gurung edged past Rajan Puri of Central in the first round and veteran champion Rabindra Shrestha in the second round.



FIDE Master Bilam Lal Shrestha, Manish Hamal, Sujendra Prasad Shrestha, keshav Shrestha, Dirgha Raj Joshi, Raj Kishor Mahato, Dharam Lama, Prachanda Man Malakar and Madan Krishna Shrestha are joint third with 1.5 points each.
