Speaking at a program organised on the occasion of the 98th birth anniversary of BP Koirala by NC Kathmandu Constituency No. 3 in Jorpati, Kathmandu, he said the UCPN (Maoist) should hand over the arms to the state to take forward the constitution writing process.[break]
NC leader Deuba said it is difficult to believe the Maoist just by bringing the PLA under the supervision of the Special Committee and handing over the containers´ keys of different cantonments.
He said NC is ready to promulgate new constitution when the ex-rebels return the land and property they seized during the conflict period.
In a different note, he said he was for selecting new leadership in the party´s sister organizations by holding general convention rather than by dissolving the old committees.
Similarly, NC central member and Chairman of Nepal Women´s Association Ambika Basnet said promulgating democratic constitution is not possible until the UCPN-M continues to maintain arms and combatants.
She claimed the present government was formed as per the foreigners´ interests though the Maoist leaders gave extremist slogans in the past.
During the function, Dr. Bhola Rijal and freedom fighters who struggled to institutionalize democracy in the country since 1950 were honoured.
