"The Maoist combatants and their weapons are cantoned inside the UN-monitored temporary camps. The peace process can´t be concluded without their integration [into the security agencies] and rehabilitation in society and the constitution can´t be promulgated without taking the peace process to a logical conclusion," the prime minister said at the fourth Loktantra Day function at Tundikhel on Saturday. Logical conclusion of the peace process should be the first priority now, he said urging the concerned parties to abide by the past agreements, international principles and practices and uphold the people´s aspirations.
Conceding that the dreams of the people who fought for the democracy four years ago hasn´t come true due to political parties´ failure, he said the parties need to fulfill it. "If we fail to accomplish this task, this will be a historic mistake and the future generations will not forgive us," he added.
Recalling the days when millions of people across the country fought against the autocratic regime, the prime minister urged one and all not to forget the people´s spirit at the time of the historic movement that "set an example of movement in the 21st century to the world".
"For long, we were taught a very wrong lesson presenting a particular person, family and an institution as a symbol of national unity. That was wrong. The people from various ethnic-indigenous as well as linguistic groups, the culture and the arts of the society can be the basis of national unity," he said.
He said no other than the people can safeguard nationalism, the national unity and the democracy.
Let’s live in peace and embrace diversity
