Addressing a function organized in Gorkha on Tuesday to mourn the death of Nar Bahadur Karmacharya, founding member of the Communist Party of Nepal, Bhattarai said, “in a multi-party democracy political parties enjoy the right to participate or not participate in polls, they but have no right to disrupt an election process.”
“If the CPN-Maoist doesn´t join the poll it will be denigrating the achievements of the Maoist insurgency,” he said, accusing the Baidya-led Maoists of being against democratic processes. He claimed that people will not tolerate Baidya´s undemocratic moves and "will revolt against them". [break]
Bhattarai maintained that there was no alternative to elections in a democracy. “We have already clarified that we are ready to hold a roundtable conference to resolve disputed issues,” he said, accusing Baidya of hatching conspiracies to take the country hostage to an even greater degree.
He said that the ousted monarchy has been a poison for the country. “Former king Gynendra´s travels across the country are intended to regain power, reorganizing regressive forces in the name of religious activity.” He accused the former king of trying to garner international support to regain power.
He further accused the ex-king of not being serious over national integrity, just as in the past.
On a different note, Bhattarai said, “It is not possible to hold CA polls unless the major parties join the election process.” He said the parties should go for the polls process, reviewing the causes of failure of the erstwhile CA.
Meanwhile, speaking to media persons on Tuesday in Birgunj, leader of the UCPN (Maoist) Dina Nath Sharma said that all the political parties except the Baidya-led CPN-Maoist were in favor of CA polls. "Baidya´s absence from the poll would not make any difference," he said, maintaining that they were holding talks with Upendra Yadav-led Madhesi People´s Right Forum-Nepal and 33 other fringe parties to bring them on board the election process.
He said that his party believed in a democratic election process and had ´geared up its election campaign´ in different districts including Parsa.
