An emergency cabinet meeting held in Singha Durbar on Tuesday also decided to form a panel to study the demands put forth by Prof Dr Govinda KC. The cabinet meeting also decided to effectively implement all the suggestions offered by the study panel.According to a press statement issued by Prime Minister Sushil Koirala's press coordinator Prakash Adhikari, the cabinet meeting has entrusted National Planning Commission (NPC) Vice Chairman Prof Dr Gobinda Raj Pokharel and Chief Secretary Leela Mani Paudyal with holding talks with Dr KC to end his hunger strike.
Dr KC has demanded action against the office bearers of the Tribhuvan University for repeatedly interfering with the autonomous Institute of Medicine (IOM) to provide affiliation to new medical colleges.
Likewise, the Kathmandu University has decided to provide affiliation to Devdaha Medical College and Birat Medical College a few months ago although the government had previously agreed not to give new affiliation until Prof Dr Mathema-led committee submitted its final report.
The cabinet meeting has decided to convey the concerns raised by Dr KC to office bearers of Tribhuvan University and Kathmandu University. The talks team comprising NPC Vice Chairman Pokharel and Chief Secretary Paudyal has been entrusted with holding talks with Dr KC within the limits permitted by the constitution and existing laws, while exercising maximum flexibility.
