No foreign books in schools: Ministry

KATHMANDU, April 3: The Ministry of Education is to ban the use and stop sale of books of foreign publications in the private and residential schools in the country.



Joint Secretary at the Ministry, Mahashram Sharma said as it is unlawful to use the books except the prescribed ones by the curriculum development center.[break] If any school is found using the foreign-published books, it will be taken action.



He said this while speaking at an interaction in the capital on Sunday.



Joint Secretary Sharma further said the Ministry will issue directive to the schools to not use the books which tarnish the nationality and sell the books in the school premises.



However, general secretary of the PABSON, Bijay Sambahamfe said the foreign books could not be removed from the curriculum until the market of the books of Nepali publications was widened.



Chairman of the Guardians´ Association Nepal Suprabhat Bhandari expressed grave concern over some schools that issued notice to compulsorily buy the books from the schools.



District Education Officer in Lalitpur, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai also reiterated that schools using the books except prescribed ones will be punished.
