Koirala also expressed the government’s commitment to open and liberal economic policies. CNI President Narendra Basnyat also apprised Koirala of a host of problems that the Nepali private sector is facing.
Similarly, talking to a delegation from the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) on Thursday, Koirala said the government was ready to work with the private sector to speed up economic growth, giving priority to the election to the Constituent Assembly, good governance and economic development.
Koirala urged the private sector to transform Nepal´s trade-led economy into an industry-led economy, expressing commitment to creating an environment conducive to investment in Nepal.
At a time when the country is passing through a soaring trade deficit, Koirala said the government would put high priority on substituting imports and promoting exports.
Bhaskar Raj Rajkarnikar, the acting president of FNCCI, who was leading the delegation, said absence of a full-fledged budget, growing insecurity among business people and persisting power cuts were major problems the Nepali private sector is facing.
The private sector leaders also asked the government to come up with concrete policies to support local industries so as to boost exports from the country.
They also stressed on creating an industrial friendly environment to enhance competitiveness among local industries and to revive the industries that have become sick due to political instability.
