KATHMANDU, June 28: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said on Monday that the government has failed to maintain law and order as incidents of killings, abduction, attacks, extortion and ransom have increased in the last three weeks.

The rights watchdog said that it has recorded nine murders, including five in Janakpur, and abduction of a bank manager during the period. In addition, the Maoist cadres attacked Nepali Congress supporters in Gorkha.

NHRC added that deteriorating law and order situation has led mass resignation of VDC secretaries in a few districts.
